This dish is hugely popular across the subcontinent, especially in Bengal, a fertile delta rich with all sorts of seafood. The prawn is a welcome substitute from this heavy meat consuming region as it is low in saturated fat, high in protein and a rich source of selenium, one of the most effective antioxidants at maintaining healthy cells. They also contain high levels of Zinc, which is important to develop a healthy immune system.

This paired up with spinach, a vegetable rich in a range of vitamins as well as magnesium and iron, results a healthy meal which is very straight forward to put together. Why not have a go yourself?

QIQ’s quick and easy Sag Prawn!

INGREDIENTS
500g fresh king prawns (peeled and cleaned)
1 chopped onions
1 tomato
250g spinach (fresh or frozen)
2 tbsp. chopped fresh coriander leaves
4 green chillies (optional)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. coriander power
1 tsp. chilli powder
1 tsp. turmeric

1. Begin by pouring oil into a hot pan.

2. Throw onions in pan and brown for a couple of minutes.

3. Now add chopped garlic.

4. Next chuck in your king prawns, cook for approx 3 mins, make sure to keep stirring.

5. Add salt, coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric and tomatoes.

6. Allow to cook on medium heat for approx 3 mins.

7. Now throw in your spinach and mix everything together.

8. Cook for another 5 mins on medium heat.

9. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander and green chillies (optional).

10. Serve up with some rice and enjoy!
